What is Hydronic Balancing?

Hydronic balancing is the process of optimising the distribution of water in a heating or cooling system so every terminal unit (radiator, fan coil, air handling unit) receives the correct flow, ensuring the system performs as designed.

It means delivering the right amount of heating or cooling to the right place, at the right time, without wasting energy.

Why Does Hydronic Balancing Matter?

Without proper balancing, heating systems risk overheating some zones while leaving others cold; in cooling systems, the reverse happens, causing discomfort and complaints. Additionally, pumps are forced to work harder than necessary, wasting energy and driving up operational costs.

A well-balanced hydronic HVAC System:

Test How is Hydronic Balancing Achieved?

Hydronic balancing is achieved using balancing valves, measurement instruments, and commissioning expertise to set and verify the correct flows within the system.

Manual Balancing

Using balancing valves and flow measurement tools to manually adjust flows.

Dynamic Balancing

Using pressure-independent control valves (PICVs) to automatically adjust and maintain flows despite pressure changes in the system.

Our Softwares

Hydronic balancing is at the heart of efficient HVAC systems. With our dedicated software, you can plan, measure, and optimise performance seamlessly turning complex challenges into simple, reliable outcomes.

HySelect is a powerful design tool for hydronic systems. Calculate flows, size components, and generate detailed reports to ensure optimal performance from the start.

HyTune App gives you full control of our TA-Slider actuators. Configure settings, upload parameters, and run diagnostics directly from your smartphone, helping you make commissioning faster and more reliable.

Our Technology for Radiator Systems

Automatic Flow Control (AFC technology)

Set the desired radiator flow directly on the Eclipse valve by IMI Heimeier. Our Automatic Flow Control technology ensures the flow is never exceeded, regardless of pressure changes like morning warm-up or closing neighbouring circuits.

We See Balancing as a System Approach

At IMI, we believe balancing is more than hardware; it is a system approach. We combine high-quality balancing valves and actuators with expert support, advanced measurement tools like TA-Scope, and digital planning tools to ensure your system is balanced correctly from design to operation.

This holistic approach helps installers and designers:

  • Design Efficient Systems: Using the right components in the right place.

  • Simplify Commissioning: Making it faster and more accurate.

  • Ensure Long-Term Efficiency: Reducing operational costs and energy waste.
